ATHNA Fellows Program
In 2018 ATHNA made the decision to introduce a Fellows program to recognize North American travel health nurses who have made substantial and lasting contributions to ATHNA and to the specialty of travel health nursing through leadership, volunteerism, clinical practice, research, education, or publications. At the 2019 Washington, DC first national meeting of ATHNA, the organization announced the inaugural class of ATHNA Fellows. The following individuals were selected in accordance with the stated criteria for the program: Julie Richards, Sandy Weinberg, Elaine Rosenblatt, Kevin Long, Mette Riis, Nancy Masunaga, Gail Rosselot, Nancy Di Rubbo, Sue Ann McDevitt, Charlotte Katzin, and honorary Fellow Jane Chiodini from the UK.
Election to the Fellows program is biennial. No election was held in 2020-2023 due to Covid. The next election is in 2024. Fellows are encouraged to nominate their peers for this honor. The Board of Directors appoints a three- member panel comprised of Fellows to evaluate the candidates and manage the election that is held among the Fellows. More information about the ATHNA Fellows program is available on the ADMIN portal.
Fellows of the American Travel Health Nurses Association will receive:
- Distinction as FATHNA for professional nomenclature
- Recognition as a FATHNA published on ATHNA website
- Certificate of Fellowship suitable for display
Going forward, ATHNA will welcome the continued and valuable support of our Fellows. One Fellow will be selected by the group to sit as a non-voting ex-officio member on the Board of Directors. From time- to- time ATHNA plans to share specific opportunities for professional development and networking among this honored group. Fellows are encouraged to spearhead ATHNA advocacy efforts, work with ATHNA on select projects, and grow the Fellows program by agreeing to nominate, sponsor, and elect new candidates in the future.
